literacy interventions with a group of student support learners across year 3 and 4.
strength in building positive relationships with learners and whānau
seeing these learners make progress (even small steps) and igniting the spark for learning has been so rewarding.
I really want to know more about how to best support these learners.
I have observed that many learners who are coming into year 3 have low oral language, they have little knowledge about phonics and how to read chunks in words and therefore do not have the confidence or ability to write.
What learnings from the 2017 - 2021 CoL teacher inquiries have informed or inspired your thinking?
it has been inspiring working with Anita and Sammy on our inquiry about feedback in writing. I hope to continue working in this collaborative way next year. -

How would your work support Manaiakalani pedagogy and kaupapa?
This inquiry would support the Manaiakalani pedagogy of Learn, Create, Share. Throughout this inquiry I will gather evidence to learn how to support the learners in my inquiry. I will research to make sure that my inquiry is evidence based. I will try out new teaching strategies and make changes to my teaching. Throughout the process, I will share my findings on my blog as well as with my colleagues and other members of the COL.
Which elements of the extensive Manaiakalani research findings inform or challenge you as you think about this?
Research that would inform my inquiry world be Rebecca Jessons - T shaped literacy and how to create a wide reading programme.

conversations with other CoL teachers in our CoL meetings.
Manaiakalani learn, create share meetings
opportunities for PD or conversations with experts around my inquiry topic.
How would you plan to support your colleagues in your school with THEIR inquiries and/or teaching in the area you are exploring?
running optional workshops for other colleagues around some of my findings for example designing learning and what makes an effective writing programme.
literacy team in my school and my research is shared in this space and then in staff PD sessions where relevant.
I am a collaborative person and I enjoy working alongside my colleagues to support us all to grow our practice.
I am thinking about how I could use my release days to get into the other learning hubs and work alongside teachers to support my findings from my inquiry.
